traveller track size?

Is the traveller track size pretty universal for small boats? I have a 1987 H23 and I want to add mainsheet traveller adjustment. I bought a Harken Small Boat CB Traveller car and a pair of Harken Travel Control Double Sheaves (that attach to the track ends). I am pretty sure these will all go together. They all look to be 1 inch. Whattya think? Thanks! Richard "Invictus"

Hi Richard

The stock H23 track was made by Schaefer but I've also seen H23's with Harken cars and end sheaves. I'm not sure if those boats had Harken or Schaefer track. I kept the stock car and added Schaefer end sheaves (see pictures in Photo Forum). The only problem with my setup is that it's end sheeting (cleats at the ends). Center sheeting (cleats on the car) would have been nicer. I hate to say it but my gut feeling is that the tracks are not the same. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Peter H23 "Raven"

Peter, What if...?

What if I were to replace the Schaeffer track (if it IS Schaeffer!) with a length of Harken. That should work, no? Richard "Invictus"

That'll work

If you replace the track you'll have an all-Harken system. Everything will fit properly and that's a plus. However, check the mounting bolt spacings on the old track and make sure the Harken track has the same bolt spacing. Otherwise you'll be drilling some new holes and plugging some old ones. It's not a real problem, just a hassle. In my case I was cheap (didn't want to buy new track) and lazy (didn't want to drill and seal new holes) so I kept the track I had and added the Schaefer cleats and sheaves on the ends. It ain't the best system but it gets the job done. Peter H23 "Raven"
