on our 1990 34' the bolt holding the bale on the traveller car sheered off. We were told by the manufacturer that Catalina switched to a 8" car with more purchase from the 5" type we have. I guess we are going to spend the $ to get it, otherwise we have to get more parts to deal with putting the bearings back in the existing car. The traveller car manufacturer said that the model we have might be too weak for our boat. But we have sailed approx 80 days in the last 14 months and little maintenance has been performed in the last 10 years on the traveller assembly. Anyone else had this problem, and, if so, how did you remedy it? Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

One year too late

I'm guessing that your boat has Garhaure blocks. If so, you're one year out of their ten warranty. A friend of mine did similar damage to his traveler during a storm when the boom jibed way hard, pulled the whole block assmb. right off. Garhauare (I'll try this spelling) replaced both blocks and paid for the shipping. Another friend just upgraded his Irwin 31 with a traveler from them and I think the total cost, for track and all, was less than $400... Hope it helps... Call Guido at Garhauare...
