Response to Larry
Larry, you are so right. Even though I now own an H23, I still sail my Missile (16 ft sloop-rigged planing dinghy) every so often for the heck of it and I gotta tell ya, the vang makes a huge difference off the wind.Without the vang the boat is nervous on a broad reach and hard to keep on plane because the boom rises and falls as the apparent wind changes. With the vang on good and proper, the ride becomes more controlled, the boat is less sensitive to mainsheet trim and it will get on plane and stay there with less work on my part. So, if you see some guy hiked out hard and grinning from ear to ear as his rudder throws up a roostertail, wave at me as I go by!Peters/v Raven and former (?) dinghy pilot
