Hello All, Hubby and I just purchased a 1987 Catalina 25 sloop, we were wondering how long the traveler sheet is or should be? The one on the boat is rotted and we want to have it cut before we take the old one off to make sure we put the rigging right. thanks, Tonia Anderson

Congratulations on your new boat

You need to get familiar with the C25 Association, in addition to this great website. Go here: http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/default.asp?CAT_ID=1

Main sheet length

Push the boom all the way to the spreaders and measure the distance from the traveler (at the back of the boat) to the end of the boom. If the main sheet blocks are 1 at the boom , and 2 at the traveler, multiply the distance by 3, and add 3-5 feet for a tail. If you have 2 pulleys in the block at the boom, and 2 pulleys in the block at the traveler multiply by 4, and add 3-5 feet for a tail. Add 2 more feet to each if you want to splice in a nice eye for the end that goes on the becket.

You could also take pictures of it

first, then take it off and get a new line cut the same length, add a foot or two for splices and/or knots.
