Hunter H26 Allover
Hi everyone
Has anyone on this forum added a traveler to their Hunter H26 with tiller steering. I dont think the cockpit is the same on a 260 so am looking for info on a H26 installation. Thanks Charley

Here's my crazy idea

Lots of people have put a traveler on the step into the cabin and it works just fine, but I don't personally like that placement because I have a HUGE bimini that I want to use while sailing. So therefore, I am looking at making custom brackets and use a Garhauer traveler which I would then attach to the cabin top. I also have a canvas pop-top that the traveler has to fit under hence the custom brackets. I would have to unclip the mainsheet in that instance, but that would be pretty easy. People have worried that you would hit your head on the traveler but they forget that the slider is usually only pushed back a half a foot almost all the time and we don't hit our heads on it.

This would require cutting two 4 inch square holes in the cabin top liner and then putting glued and screwed backing plates in between the liner and roof and then re-attaching the pieces so as not to have big holes in the cabin liner. Then, since no one seems to know the cabin roof fiberglass strength....would a serious jibe tear the roof off....I haven't given up on the idea yet and will wait till Spring to try some prototypes out.

Hunter never recommended a traveler on the cabin coach for many reasons. The only safe place is on the step or seat area just going into the cabin. Honestly since day one, I never needed one as I found with the big main vs. standard did not really need one but each to his own. Please do not think of installing a traveler on top of the cabin or over the companionway. Structural concerns and safety are the issues.
