Traveler on Catalina 22

The traveler bar on my Catalina is lose. I know it is hard to get tightened. I have read about cutting hole then covering the hole with a vent cap. I had rather try extendtions to tighten before cutting holes. My question is this. What am i trying to tighten is the fastener a nut or screw? If it is a screw is it a slot or phillips head?thankschip

hello chip, in the case of my 1976 22, the ends of the traveler were driled out and threaded for a bolt. the head was 1/2 or 9/16th socket. it was necessary to thread one hole deeper to get it to snug up.good luckjohn
