I finally put in the trapezoidal replacement forward hatch for my 1983 H 27. I found a replacement at Sailorman, in Ft. Lauderdale. For my boat, the replacement is a Bomar 2092. I have pictures of the replacement on the photo forum.

Great Job!

Chuck, Installation looks great! I've been waiting to see how it went, looks like it was not that tough a job. How long did it take? I ordered the hatch as well, but have not had enough time (or good weather) to start the job. You've got me motivated now though. Thanks for taking the lead! On a separate issue - I notice your decks non-skid looks in pretty good shape. Did you redo that? Ours is sad looking and my wife is on me to do something about it. Any input on that? ...I'll let you know when I get my hatch done and again Thanks for the info....

About 4 hours

The shaping of the opening took about 2 hours, to do it carefully. I waited until the air and the boat had warmed up some before applying the sealant, and putting the hatch into position. Drilled new holes for the screws and added screws. I carefully wiped up some of the extra goop the was squeezed out. I can't wait for my first squall to check the seal. As for the non-skid, it looks good, but is slick. This year I am repainting with pre-mixed non-skid paint. i am not looking forward to all that masking to do.

Fitting trapazoid hatch

As i described in an earlier forum response the easiest and neatest way is to grind and file all but the fore and aft sections of the spigot, then the hatch drops right in and sits flush just as the present one does. Drill new mount holes, bedding compound and your done. Mine has been in about 12 years with no leaks or problems.

Can buy hatch without a flange

rather than building up to free the flange. This also allows buying a hatch slightly oversize, or even square, which was described in a previous post. But will the hatch be secure enough without the flange? David Lady Lillie

Trapizoid-to David

When i bought my hatch,Bomar would not make one without the spigot as they were concerned about rigididy [also they in all likelyhood didn't have an extrusion die in this configuration]. As i had access to a milling machine at the time i did as i said in my response. The same could be done with a 4 inch Makita and a file. AS tothe results i guess you missed the last line of my response! My boat was in Homestead FL during Hurricane Andrew and hatch did not need resealing or any other attention afterwards if that meens anything.
