My wife and I own a 1982 Hunter "Cherubini" 33. We are presently putting her back together. Many times I have been able to relie on this board for suggestions on how to fix various problems I have encountered. I now have a problem that has me perplexed.
I have a Garmin 440s chartplotter with a in-hull transponder. Both are 2 years old. The other day when I powered up the chartplotter and went to the split screen option where the chart and depth are shown, I noticed that although I was reading the bottom graphicallu, I was not getting a numerical reading of the depth. I have the keel offset to read from the bottom of the keel and that seemms to be working properly. Just no number read out.
I called tech support and explained this problem and the reply was " Hmmmmmm that's interesting never heard of that happening" the tech emailed me the most recient updates on the system in the hopes it would solve the problem. It didn't. So far I have updated the unit and have checked the fluid level at the transponder. The unit boots up as desined, the bottom is read graphically, just no numerical reading.

Is there anyone who can give me some suggestions?

Because you are drawing a graph of the bottom it proves the transducer and its wiring is okay. The return signal is entering the Garmin unit so the problem is inside the 440 box.

Could you be on bottom lock which is part of the fishfinder - and with the depth range set too small?
Do you see the numbers when just in depth mode and not in the split screen mode?

Unless there is a setting which allows you to turn off the numerical display it looks as if something inside the unit has failed.
I just looked at the on-line manual and didn't find anything though.

Can you get it to somewhere that could test it, or loan you another for a quick check?
I am very fortunate, Garmin's UK HQ is only a few miles away and they are very helpful.

Thank you for your responce to my 440s problem.
I haven't been able to get to the marina the last couple of days but will do so tomorrow.
I plan to check for a bottom lock and reconfigure my unit. Hopefully, that will solve the problem
So far I am getting quite an education on Hunter's and associated equpt and loving it.
Once again thank you for your help.
