I am considering a singlehanded sail from SF to Hawaii in 2010. Never did it before. As part of my prep I am asking any Ranger owners if they have done the trip in a Ranger and asking for input on how to prep my Ranger 33 for the journey.
Hey my 76' 33 did the vic maui in 94' We refittied the rigging reinforced the mast put an offshore boom and reinforced gooseneck on it. I bought a fully batter offshore main from north for 2400.00 bucks. You need an emergancy rudder and another drain in the cockpit. Make sure you take your jack lines and storm sails and some padding for your legs while driving your legs will bruise from the knee to above your ankle. So we did it just be smart think of everything that could go wrong could and prepare for that.... Good luck
Thanks for your short list of upgrades. I will add it to my long list. Just had the boat survayed and got the ok so now upgrage upgrade and work ot to pay for more upgrades. I was just thinking about the cockpit drains and how inadquate they are. I was thinking of drilling them out and putting larger pipes in. Enough about me, how long did you take to cross. What was the worst/best moment.
