Im needing to replace the fiberglass trim (u-shape) piece that goes around the rear, top portion of the transome (the o/b motor sits on top of it).

Does anyone know where I can get one?

My 26c was and still is missing that portion of the trim you are talking about. The PO had put a rubber transom protector on it under the motor but I removed it and bolted my Tohatsu 8 directly onto the transom, sealing everything with 3m4200. I don't know if the trim was ever there in the first place.

Thanks for the reply. When I have the bottom redone I will probally have them fiberglass it. I also thought about having a metal shop fabricate one?

When you do replace the trim, I'd suggest putting a backing on as the previous owner of Soire'e did. It keeps the motor from moving forward and back- at all. I'm not sure I'd have thunk it, but it sure makes the motor solid.

thx

JDK, what are the screws for on the bottom of the transom? Backing plates?

fwiw, I shimmed my engine to move the center of piviot rearward to get a little more travel.

Those are holding the rear of the floor of the lazarette. If you look closely, you can also see the inspection plate just under the edge of the anchor chain. That's where one gets access to the speed meter sending unit, or to sponge out any water that happened to get in.

I reconstructed the fiberglass trim. Then placed a hard nylon cutting board (from supermarket; cheap and super sturdy) as backing plate and bolted the motor right through with ss bolts, which were cemented with 3M 4200 like beamreach described. I used a 3/4 in HDPE plate and ss washers as backing on the inside. Been more than 2 years like that and looks super; no more headaches with cracking the trim, etc. Nylon cutting boards are excellent for this job, but require a slow-cutting implement. Jig saw and table saw cause a lot of melting as they cut through. Cheers, Albert

Madelon, I agree with your fondness for cutting boards. If you want to cut faster, have your wife/first mate/SO pour water on the cut as you make it. The jig saw blade won't melt the material and the edges look great.

Then you take them out to dinner...if you're smart.

JDK,
What are all of those bolts below the water line for?

You meant the wife right, not the cutting boards? :D

You're trying to get me into trouble, huh? It doesn't take much, but on the other hand, after 38 years I'm surprised she hasn't killed me in my sleep (as he casually handed her the coil wire from a Tote Goat and pulled the starter rope to see if it had spark...).
