Transome bolt lengths

I picked up a really nice( almost new) O/B motor mount for use on my 1978 25ft. O'day. I'm looking for info on 1: how long of bolts would I need to got thru the transom & 2: I'll be putting it on my Starboard side so how high above the water should it be? ( Its does move up & down about 6"(?) or so.

I assume you have the motor mount wedge on the stern already. If not, you need one. If you DO, then the bolts will be 5/16ths stainless steel carriage bolts in 3 differant sizes: about 8" for the long one at the top, a 7" one for the other top, and 3" ones for the bottom....your choice as to how much they stick into the inside.

Also, make sure your transom plate inside is in good shape, and that your motor is a long shaft version.

I'll be mounting the motor mount.Its not a stationary one its adjustable up & down.

Right- the motor MOUNT fits to the wedge, which is fitted to the hull. The motor mount goes up and down on the stationary wedge.

I've never seen a 25 without the wedge. May be though!

Maybe it was taken off but my 25 has the OB bracket mounted flat to the transom. I have seen at least one other without the wedge. I've been thinking that the wedge is not required with newer designed and stronger brackets. Most brackets I have looked at have adjustable mount plates to help mount the OB verticle.
Even in the up position my T9.9 OB has plenty of room to tilt back.
