2000 - 2002 Macgregor 26X Does anyone have experience using a motor larger that 50 hp? A 2-Stroke engine weighs less than a comparible 4-stroke engine. The 2-stroke engine also has more high-end torque. What is the basis of a manufacturer's outboard horsepower rating ? Is it (1)the weight of the engine or (2)the thrust pressure against the transom or (3)the top speed of the boat? What is the best shaft length / prop pitch combination?

Lot's have used 65's

I haven't been around the forums for a while (over a year), but when I was last around here, there were quite a few that had used up to 65 HP with no problems other than voiding the warranty...

re: Transom Strength

Gene Arena, a Macgregor dealer in the S.F. Bay area (1070 Marina Village Parkway # 103, Alameda, Ca. 94501), has been conducting extensive testing using the Mercury 4stroke 60 hp "big foot" with 14" prop. He is not on the net, but may be reached at 510-523-9292, and usually is willing to call you back and chat for an extended period on his dime if you leave him your name and number.

115HP on a 96' 26X !

Hi Tom......... Ran across this owner in Boats for Sale on this site. Bruce Bartley - 623.877.9603 Check out the add. It's the 1996 26X for $25,000 from AZ. You won't need the added HP at sealevel. The Macgregor nuts up here in the mountains are the ones adding the bigger motors. Have seen a Merc 90HP on a 26X in Denver ! Do yourself a favor and keep away from the 2-cycles ! My Honda 50 performs great and uses little fuel at 1500-2000 rpm (4-5mph)cruising speed. happy motor shopping.........dan
