Can anyone offer any opinions on this product? There were a couple of nights last season that I thought I really was going to lose my mind from the unrelenting banging all night. I'd like to avoid it this season if possible. Thanks again, Marty

Works

They only time that it doesn't work is when the wind is pushing waves against the side of the hull. But the normal slap under your bunk is stopped. Everytime that I get lazy and don't put it on, I regret it about 4 AM or so.

Works very well

The original lines it comes with are a bit short, and you have to leave yourself a note to make sure you take it off the transom before you leave!

What slap silencer?

There was no specific slap silencer mentioned in the original post, but a google search turned this up: http://shop.catalinaowners.com/detail.tpl?cart=3231161831207575&fno=20&group=185 I've also seen assemblies made of a length of garden hose with an attachment line run through the inside the hose and, on the outside, a piece of the insulator that's used on home hot water lines. Seems to break up at least the small wavelets that can be so annoying.

Great Investment

This is probably the best single investment we made for our H376! This really cuts down the noise. For those looking for this useful device - there is a link on the home page to the store. Check it out. Doug Merrill s/v Dream Catcher

A terrific addition

This is a life saver. I couldn't get along without it. The slapping on the stern would (did) drive me and The Admiral "nuts." Go for it! Wynn Ferrel

The only regret is not getting one sooner

We soon learned after purchasing it to put it on every night, because as Jim said earlier, the wind shifts the waves pick up and there you are at 3 in the morning putting it on. It gets a lot of stares in the marina but it works GREAT!!

How easy is it...

...to install and uninstall? How well does it stow away? Sounds like I should order one. Thanks for the responses. Marty

What is it?

Sounds great, what is it? Do you only use it in the Marina? Thanks!

It's like a transom "bra"

The slap silencer is a piece of sailcloth sewn to wrap under the transom. It is lined with strips of dense foam rubber. It slides under the transom and attaches to the stern cleats. It is sold in the chandlery here on HOW. It is easy to install, but a bit clumsy for only one person. Stows easily, but it only rolls up, does not fold. So, find a spot with about 4 ft of length for a Passage 42 model. The dock box works well, as does the transom line locker.

Very Worthwhile and Easy to Use

Even my closest friends have them, thank goodness. And they really work.

Slaping

I had the same problem after just buying a 91 37.5. The cheapest way I found to fix it is ear plugs. I won't be spending $300.00 on the skirt product.
