Transom Shower

We have a 2003 H356 and notice an odd situation with the transom shower. When you first turn it on there is good flow and water pressure but they diminish rapidly because, I think, the pressure pump is not turning on (the DC breaker is ON). All other outlets (galley, head, and shower) have excellent flow characteristics. Is there something I am missing, e.g., an additional filter, check valve, etc? Thanks in advance.

Did you check.........

Did you check under the galley sink and make sure that the valve under there is turned all the way open.I turned mine off during the winter. There is a panel of valves that are shutoffs for each water spigot.

How about a kink in the supply line?/

I had a similar problem with my 336 and it was a kink in the supply line from the faucet to the shower head. There was enough flow to build up pressure when closed, but wasn't enough to keep it properly supplied.

I agree, hose kink

I was looking at the vent filter for my holding tank yesterday and noted the shower line was twisted shut with a kink and also had a kink where it exits/enters the manifold from the weight of the hose. I'd check those on your boat.

ditto for us-we had the same kink on our 356

Transom Shower Revisited

Saturday we played around with the transom shower and pretty much eliminated the kink in the hose theory. After much invoking of ancient maritime curses we found the following. If we took the shower handle off the flexible house we got lots of flow volume. Once we reattached the handle the flow volume was much reduced even though the on/off ring on the handle was in the full on position. This leads us to believe that there is some restriction in the handle itself. However, it is not clear that the handle can be taken apart to clean. Has anyone done this? Thanks.

Sand

Check where the hand held line connects to the water line, you may have gotten sand in your water that made it past the filter but has clogged the screen. This has happened on my galley sink. It is easy to rinse the sand out of the screen.. This is assuming there is a screen at that point.

Just Fixed Mine Over The Weekend

I had virtually no flow from the transom shower. I thought I would find something plugged but that was not the problem. The shower head has a removeable ring (had to use a strap wrench to get it loose) that holds the head together. Taking it loose will allow all of the inside pieces to fall out. The pieces inside came apart and the valve is just a flat piece of plastic with a square drive hole in the middle. Nothing was plugged but after some looking I could see that the valve had been misassembled. The inner piece had a guide pin that fits into a slot in the outside body. It was not in the slot so the valve was not lined up with the holes that lets the water through to the head. The whole process took less than 10 minutes to fix.

Richard, Is the removable part of the shower head the conical one just under the spray cap or is it the part that seems to be attached to the body of the handle? Thanks. Steve

Behind the conical piece

I turned on the water just a little which forced the conical piece out of the shower head. Behind it was a little piece with two wings and a square drive in the center. The control on the back of the head has a square shaft which turns "slides" the wings over two holes which turns off the water, or away so the water can flow. Hope that helps.
