Long story short, I am installing a motor mount (big Garelick for 4-stroke O/B) but tilted and curved transom (O'Day 28) will need a wedge to present a flat and reasonably vertical surface for the motor mount to be bolted. Short of designing and constructing a new one (PO built one that has rot), is there a commercially available one? As always, thank you in advance for any advice and/or ideas.

Maybe D & R

You might try D & R Marine, although I rebuilt mine. There was only some deterioration on the inside, so I filled all holes and crevices with West System epoxy sealing up the entire back of the wedge. I think it is actually better than new. So far I am continuing to use a new Garelick unit rated at 115 lbs - but says "do not use with 4 stroke motors"- for my Honda 9.9. What size motor are you going to use and what Garelick mount? Thanks, CVP

I Made One

I used a block of mahogony about 2" thick and shaped it into a wedge. Although the transom on my 25 may have much less of an angle than your 28. The solid wood looks very nice though and is very sturdy.

motor mount

I agree with CVP check with rudy at D&R,call him you will get your response quicker that way. I own a 26 and just installed a new garelick mount this year, thankfully it was a direct replacement but I spoke with rudy first. I also have a fiberglass wedge that was ok so I left it but I would think that they must have made something for this install.GOOD LUCK!

I looked

I looked for a replacement a few years ago for my Oday, and couldn't find one. I did what fastscot did: scooped out the rotten wood and replaced it with West System epoxy. It was kinda fun. If I were building a replacement, I wouldn't use wood; I bet it looks great, but I go for low maintenance. Star-board is an option: plastic that you can work like wood. The stuff is not cheap, although I think it is less than mahogany or teak. I overheard someone at a boating store the other day say that instead of star-board, he bought two or three cutting boards made of that semi-soft white plastic at a home goods store. It cost about half as much as the star-board and he was happy with the results. Take it for what its worth....

Garelick Adjustable Brackets

You can find an image on the garelick website. Solves the transom angle but you would still need to offset one bracket to accomodate a curved transom.

Weaver brackets

This may be overkill for you and they are not a cheapo either, "Weaver" makes some purrrty fancy brackets for tenders, et al. I saw one last week that converted from a dingy engine braket (vertical to power the dink) into a 90 degree change (horizontal now) to support the tender which was carried on its side up upon the swim ladder, commonly done in New Zealand. This is a heavy duty stainless bracket that I have penciled in for future cruising gear, in case I decide to take the plunge again.

Garelick Bracket

Just wanted to add that the 7190 bracket only has 9 1/2" of travel the 7191 has 15 1/2 " of travel. I made the mistake of getting the wrong one the first time. You will need the longer travel on the 28 Oday I used the Garelick adjustable brackets and worked out fine. If you want I can send you a picture of the install.

Pictures?

"If you want I can send you a picture of the install." You need to ask? Can you post one here for all to see? Thanks
