Has anyone added locking latches to the transom storage lockers? I have the rubber latches right now but would like to replace them with lockable types. Anybody done this and have recomendations on good latches? Thanks

Mc Master

Brian, I think we have the same on our 376. Although, I haven't entertained the thought of locking them, you can go to www.mcmaster.com catalog page 2791. They have one model in 316 Stainless, it is item designation "G". check it out!

Try this!

Hey Brian...Try cotter pins. We've got a SS set-up for padlocks but we use kotter pins instead of a padlock just in case you need to get into the locker in a hurry. Obviously we only use these when we are sailing as it also keeps the lockers from opening and also in case of a knockdown or some serious heeling. It works well.

A cool trick that I haven't seen since the '70s is

to attach a rope inside the locker lid. Then fair-lead it with appropriate turning blocks to a jam cleat inside the cabin. Result; locker locked without shin busting hasps and easy to open. If you're not a crook.

Fred' cool trick

That's how the cockpit lockers on my H25 are rigged and it works great. Isn't this still the '70s?

Well, I get called Pops now and then too, so

that means the 70s were a helluva lot of fun. Not because of boats, but women!

Integral lockable hasp by Seachoice

Seachoice makes an excellent alternative in a "Lockable Hasp with 2 Keys", p/n 50-37031 or BMD50-37031. Similar to the swivel hasp mentioned in other responses you've received, but it comes with its own lock. On my previous H22 I opted for the swivel hasp and then added combination locks when needed. However this alternative I find quite convenient, and they are keyed alike. This eliminates storing the combo locks (and remembering where you last put them), and when in the unlocked position the hasp simply opens freely for quick safety access. As you can see from the link they aren't the cheapest option, but compared to buying hardware and locks for each lazerette, I find the marginal premium for the added convenience worth it.

Hasps

Brian: I have attached a stainless steel hasp on each of my storage lockers on my 2002, 386. You have to install them on the opposite side of the rubber hasps (toward the bow) on the top of the lid.. Any other placement will foul the raising and lowering of the helm seat. I am going to my boat tommorrow and I will photograph my installation to clarify. Sam Bocchicchio
