I bought A 8hp Honda fr my 22ft Hunter. Before putting the motor on I put A Fulton 4 stroke motor mount on and A piece of 1/2 poly mounting plate and I backed that up with A 1/8 1ft square alum. plate inside. I ran the motor yesterday and I noticed I still have some transom flex. Is this normal or is their anything else I can do besides rebuilding the transom, which I don't care to do. I appreciate any input thanks alot. George s/v Tangerine

My guess

My guess is that the 1/8 plate may not be thick enough. If it's a foot square, I think it may allow flex depending on how big the bolt pattern is. You may also want to add a lateral brace against the plate. Good luck Russell Hudson s/v summer luvin'

I have a Honda 7.5 on my Hunter 22, there's a little flex in the transom and some in the motor mount but other than a couple small gel coat cracks over the past 18 years nothing has gone wrong. Fiberglass is inherently flexible so if it isn't moving a lot I wouldn't worry about it.
