-not sure the hull can take that. *but works great on powerboats. makes a 20' ride like a 23'
also not sure about the rudders on an X.... (interference)

I have seen some nice wooden 'swim platform' for X's it went over the rudder controls. raised up about 2" over the floor. -did not extend past transom.

it will most definitely upset the initial balance of the boat, and with the motor being mounted on an extended bracket on a sailboat, the rocking of the boat will be lifting the prop clear of the water more often, and then dipping the motor in the wave as it settles back down.
i have a 10hp honda with a standard length shaft and with it mounted as most are on a swing bracket, i have to get the height just right to keep the prop in the water without the motor getting dipped.... if it was extended out another couple of feet, i think it would either lift the prop out or dip the motor.... and this is on a boat with a bit of a keel.. on a 26 i think the rocking action would be a bit more pronounced due to the lack of a weighted keel to dampen the effect...

but then I know nothing about the shape of the hull near the transom on an X model.... its possible that they were designed with a motorboat transom, which would keep them from having such a pronounced rocking effect

I think if (HUGE IF),,, the transom/ hull could take it, the bracket could work.
*however the engine cowl (cover) now sits lower in the water. that seal needs to be perfect! often we would see water wash over the cowl of the OB.

MacGregor Mac26X Trailer sailing for adventure,
May I have some suggestions regarding fabrication of this transom extender please? A & J Marine Welding has a sale, gonna cost about $1k

Gonna stick with one outboard, not twin, and it will have a deck.
Should it be floatation type or not or no concern?
How far set back/extention should it be? 18"? 24"? Need at least 14" to fit the relocated rudder cross member and pieces. and longer=more potential to raise outboard.
At least two 4"x8" flanges on rear of platform to relocate/mount the rudders.
Platform can be around 48" to match the stern opening or should I match width of boat.
May have a raised removable aluminum plate over the rudder crossmember pieces, steering cable, power cables etc. so platform remains user friendly.

I'd need to know more about how the macgregor transom was built and connected to the hull...

in a powerboat its pretty straight forward. ~2-3" think plywood transom wrapped in f-glass connected to the keel and sides with thick mat. the boat is designed to take a lot of stress to the transom.

I would think the transom is strong, but not sure about how thick the mat is on the bottom or sides. -can you access that area and add more mat? (I would).

-that's the key. keeping the transom connected to the boat. With a bracket you'll be adding more of a lever action to the engine/transom. and if too much, it will crack. probably where it connects on the sides or the bottom.

-on the macgregor-sailor.com board, theres a guy 'Billy' from NC IIRC, that put a 140 suzi on his X. Think he added some mat to the transom. might try to talk to him or others more familiar with the x construction.

its going to lower the stern a bit, and won't help its sailing. not sure if it will plane or ride better, since you only have a 50hp. if you had a 70hp, I would think it would ride better.

-just my opinion..... Good luck.

ps: I have seen transom's separated from the hull/ sides/ deck...

I ended up partners on a wellcraft 20' (w/ 200 merc), when they ran it aground (fast) and broke the transom from the deck/ sides. (keys)

I glassed it back together with the biaxal glass...

-How thick are the sides where they connect to the transom? and can you add more glass? (I would).
