transmission while sailing

Just wondering on do's and don'ts regarding the transmission while sailing......the owner's manual states to not have the transmission in forward with the engine stopped...what's better? neutral or reverse or does it matter? Thanks much.

Universal - Reverse

It's been covered many times (check archives) On a Universal with a hurth transmission - sail with the transmission in reverse. Good Luck, Dave

reverse

i marked 'sail in reverse' in bold black marker on the engine panel. why catalina didn't placard this is totally beyond me.

My Yanmar guru said reverse is preferred, neutral is okay, never leave it in forward. I use neutral.
