Transmission shift fork

The shift fork on my 79C is worn on the forward shift side. Yanman guys in Ozz say the shift fork is no longer made. Engine and trans are probably original equipment. I had the fork brazed and cut but that was worn quickly, then I had it welded and cutback. Lasted a bit longer, Now I had to do the braze myself as Dili doesn't have a machine shop. Does anyone know a source for the fork? Transmission shifts hard and neutral is hard to find when the fork wears. The fork actually holds the discs apart and just gets out of the way when shifting. I'll be headed back to Darwin next week and hope to get this worked out.

Way out there!

For those kind of problems I always call Ike Torresen. Unfortunately they do not have a toll-free, the number is 231-759-8596. The website is www.torresen.com and e-mail is sail@torresen.com. They should be able to tell you if the part is still made and where you might find it "down under". Good luck.

Wally.........

Way out there indeed!!!! You have to be the captain of the most distant 37C! After you get the tranny fixed, (and I know you will!) please post an entry here once in a while to let us all know how your voyage is going. You must know we all imagine ourselves "out there" once in a while, and we also wonder if, all things being equal, our humble Hunters can really cut it "out there". We all discuss the problems we've had, and changes we've made to our beloved boats, and here you are "doing it" with a "humble" 37C. Don't forget to write................ Dave Simpson, Catalina Island (Our "voyage" consisted of "26 miles across the sea" from Long Beach to Avalon, but we're happy as a couple of clams here, and Mexico and points South will still be there.........)

Wally, try this next time...

Wally, The next time you weld up the fork, drill the holes larger. You'll then be able to make a plastic bushing to take the wear. Pat McCartin

what is the model of the transmission? what engine do you have. they are not all the same. Mastry engine usually will have a way to fix about anything. Mastry in sure you knowis in st.pete fla. and they sold the engines to hunter.

Thanks

Thanks for all the good ideas. I'm off to Darwin tomorrow, 3 day run, for a bottom paint job. I will persue this from there. The idea of a plastic insert sounds good, the original fork had a moly coating for wear. I was told that the fork was not made anymore. I'll rip it out and take it to machine with the specs and try it while checking with the US numbers. And I'll check in now and then. Afte Darwin its Sulawesi, Borneo and Malaysia so the trans must be right. wally.smith.@usa.net
