I Have a question on my transmiision oil on my Yanmar 2GM20F with a Kanzaki KM2P transmission. I think it list the oil quanity as .3 L but it might be .8 L, it's kind of difficult to read. I used .3 L of 30W oil, but I want to be sure. Also where should the oil read on the dipstick? There is a mark on the stick about 1/8 inch from the bottom, but the level is showing about 1 inch on the dipstick. Thanks.

Chuck:

Here is a table of the transmissions for your review.

When you check the oil level the dip stick should be unsrcewed from the transmission, wiped off and inserted (not screwed in) into the housing and removed to check the level.

I have the same engine and transmission. My notes show 2.0 liters for the engine and o.25 liters for the transmission. I used to use Yanmar 15W40 oil, but dealers now recommend Shell Rotella A. I fully agree with Steve on the mesauring technique with the dip stick.

Replaced the oil with .3 litres of 30W so is was up to the line on the bottom of the dipstick when unscrewed. I noticed that the dipstick moved up and down a little inside the oil cap. I was unsure if the dipstick seated all the way to the top or bottom of the cap would give me the correct reading of oil level. Is this play normal?
