transmission oil/fluid?

I have a 1975 YSE 12 and want to change the oil/transmission fluid. I don't know which to use in the transmission. I have been told to use 30 wt oil in the transmission. Is that correct? Please advise. I have had the boat 18 mos. previous owner is clueless.Barry

30 weight engine oil is right if I remembercorrectly, you can always double check what is in the trans now by looking (trans fluis is red). Double check with the owners manual to be sure and verify the trans model.

The Y series engines take regular crankcase oil. Get a look at its color, regardless. If it's starting to look black, the rear crankshaft seal might be getting weak.
