On my 2004 H36 I am having trouble with my shift/throtle. Several times now after running in forward gear the transmission would not shift into nuteral let alone reverse. Has anyone else experienced this and if so was there a solution? Only after moving the shift lever back and forth and putting extreme pressure on it will it release and move into neutral as it should. It could be the Morse cable or the transmission itself. Also I have found it impossible to remove the shift arm so as to access the interior cable connection at the pedestal. No, there is no set screw - and I have tried to use a pully puller but to no success. Any comments?

Same here...probably the cable...

..this happens after long voyages without shifting. Probably the cable and not the transmission. In fact, I always shift reverse in the harbor before hitting the docks...better to find out sooner than later. Do not know why, but after "forcing it" in the first year, it doesn't happen anymore...I did make some adjustments..maybe that helped. You may want to disconnect at transmission end to see how that lever moves....but I really think its the cable and not the transmission. To disassemble the shift arm you have to unscrew the white housing from the top(one screw) and sides (4?screws)..it now rotate/swivel on the stainless steel arm and it will split and open in half. Now you have access to the inside where the cable and shifting mechanism is at. After you adjust the cable inside the housing you might want to put a little liquid lock nut. Once while docking, the cable linkage inside that housing came loose, it stayed in forward and was not able to shift reverse while docking. Luckily we were going very slow and I just turned the engine off. By the way, I do not think you have to take the lever off to get to the inside cable. abe
