Can anyone tell me where the dipstick is for checking transmission fluid? Is it under the heat exchanger. There is a bolt there that is very hard to reach. If that is the it, how do you ever get the dipstick out? There is less than 2 inches of room above it.

Yes, that is the dipstick, it is hard to reach, after loosening it you have to lift it up past the heat exchanger, move it towards the bow to get it out. There is a line on the dipstick to measure fluid level
We started out with a kind of a sketchy heat exchanger mount on our '84 M-25. The previous owner upgraded to the 3" heat exchanger, but only used one strap to keep it in place. When I had the engine out for the keel repair, I devised a different, offset bracket that allows the dipstick to come out, straight up. I used two S.S. straps but also added sheet rubber to cushion the HX on the strut.
