Can someone tell me where the dipstick is located to check the transmission oil level on mt Catalina 30. We have the Universal M25 engine. Can't seem to locate it on the yransmission unit Thanks

Trans Dip Stick
The M25 engine has a Hurth transmission located aft of the engine, between the engine and the stuffing box. The dip stick is located on the port forward top side of the transmission housing. Agreed, the hardest place to get to it, right? Do NOT use the bottom drain plug to drain the transmission fluid. Instead, use a (turkey) baster with a length of thin hose duct taped to the baster, or a syringe with extension hose, to remove the old transmission fluid from the dip stick hole. The reason is that there is a crush washer at the bottom (or two dissmilar metals) that make replacement difficult, and leaks assured.

Dip stick
It doesn't look like a normal dip stick. It is just a bolt head. After it is out, wipe it off and stick it back in the hole. Don't screw it in. Pull it back out and check the level. It will have a groove about 3/8 in from the bottom.
