I was out this last week and my transmission went out on my 1983 H30. The rear seal gave out and the transmission lost all fluid. I need to find a replacement transmission (preferably a rebuilt) Where should I start? I figured that as long as I have the whole thing apart, I would replace the motor mounts (the cause of the failed transmission), cutlass bearing, and stuffing box. I'm planning on putting a dripless seal and having the shaft checked to see if it's straight. I might also add a three blade prop if it fits in the budget.Any thoughts to which brand of dripless seal? Prop?

PSS Shaft Seal and Michigan Wheel

Sorry to hear about the loss of your transmission. As for dripless shaft seal, I have had a PSS Shaft seal for several years now and I like it. Lots of archive information here in HOW about it also. As for a new 3 blade prop, lots of archive info here about that also. For fixed blade props I hear Michigan Wheel is great. see www.miwheel.com

Go for a coupling

When you get your PSS dripless seal go for a flexilble shaft coupling as well. It helps reduce the vibration and can also prevent transmission damage in some cases.

flexible coupling

PYI sells a good one-we put it on our 356 and it made a huge improvement, only 1.5" thick so it fits between our transmission and flange
