Transmission Cable Problems

We have had a recurring problem with the transmission cable on our 1992 335. Late last fall the cable failed while docking....it had been stiff to operate prior. The yard replaced it with a new cable (at quite some expense) that was much smoother to shift. I typically leave the transmission in reverse while sailing but have found it quite difficult to shift out of reverse prior to restarting the engine. Yesterday while docking again, shifting from forward into neutral, it let go again! It seems to fail inside the binnacle. The yard appears to be willing to do the repair under warranty however the recurrance has me a little concerned. Have others encountered the same situations? Any recommendations would be appreciated Merrill Mant Ambition Lake Champlain NY
