Transmission 2QM15

Does anyone have any information on the repair of the transmission output shaft for a 1980 2QM15? I put the engine in reverse and the thrust of the propeller caused the propeller shaft to pull the transmission output shaft from transmission casing. The mechanic believes the problem can be fixed by replacing a locking nut on the output of the transmission shaft.

Locking nut?

I thought there was already a lock Ken. There should be a square-headed bolt on the collar where the shaft goes into the flange. My manuals are at the boat but I am pretty sure your 2QM15 is the same as my 2QM20. I'll check when I go up there tonight. And you could call Torresen, see link below.

Provided the locknut hasn't caused some internal damage your mechanic is probably correct.
