Hey was just curious if anyone has a pic or 2 of where they mounted a transducer on the transom. seems like there is min space that would be under the waterline. thanks in advance
ps. if you have done a successful through the hull setup. Pics would also be great.

What type of transducer are you planning to install? Depth and speed transducers are generally installed forward of the keel below the waterline. GPS transducers are mounted above the waterline in any number of locations.

I truly just want a depth gauge. I am just gonna use the I-pad with navionics for gps plotting etc. i picked up a little garmin striker 4 from bass pro is simple and will do the job. I'm new to sailing and new to my catalina 22. when you say most depth/speed are installed in front of the keel do you mean through hull setup? the boat came with a brand new hawkeye that would be great but he said he could never get the through hall transducer to work. Thats why i picked up the garmin.

I got a toilet wax ring and melted the wax, poured it into a small dish and let it cool into a nice "puck" shape. I cleaned up a spot in front of the keel trunk and pressed it into place. On a nice hot day, I pushed the Lowrance transducer down into the wax and figured it would do till I see if it works or not. That was 8-9 years ago and I haven't fooled with it since.

Thank you I believe this will be the method I use

Lots of things will work in addition to toilet wax, including electricians putty (less messy than wax), a baggy filled with water (useful for temporary testing), epoxy for very permanent installation, etc.

You're just trying to avoid air bubbles - the transducer won't fire properly through an air gap (or through a cored hull, but that's not an issue on our C-22s).

I used plumber's putty, softened in the microwave. Working thus far. I think toilet wax would be a little easier, but we've often trailered in 100+ degree temps, and I was concerned it might melt and shift.
