Hello Mark, This has been covered numerous times, check the archives and you will find all the details. In short, yes it can been doen that way but you need to eliminate any air gaps between the transducer and the hull. Good luck

Cored hull?
Not sure what boat you have. Presuming it's a C, some older models had cored hulls in which case it will not work properly.

C30 1984
We had the survey today and the boat is on the hard ready for a hauler. There is currently a depth indicator. My concern is that once I put the boat in the lake, there is no real opportunity to lift it out. I will ceck the archives too.
