Transducer locations on H34

I am in the process of installing depth and speed transducers on my '86 H34, but I'm not sure about where to locate them. They should be forward of the keel, but the first area available is up under the v-berth. This seems like it would be too close to the bow, giving false readings when going through waves. The bilge area by the head/shower is not deep enough for the transducers, and would also place them next to the keel instead of in front of it. I'm curious to hear how other owners addressed this problem. Thanks, Mike Ross S/V Island Time

Transducer Location on 34h

I have a 34h 1985. The transducers are located just fw'd of the keel. Intrenal just over the sill leading into the fw'd cabin. It's the original instalation. Works well except crossing large wakes where the bow really comes out of the water. John G. S.V. Dinnae-Ken II

I agree with John G!

I installed depth and speed transducers in the shower sump area as well. It was close, but the Autohelm units fit well underneath the floor hatch in front of the head sink and under the shower floor grate. Make sure you fill in any voids you run across between the hull and liner after you cut your holes. I used thickened resin to fill mine. Wrap an acetate sheet in a circle to hold the resin in place and provide a nice smooth finished surface. Jeff Jones '85 34 Escapade

34 Transducer

Moved my knotmeter transducer from the area suggested by the previous replys to get it away from the keel. Put it under the vee berth, it seems to work ok there.

My depth

is under the shower grate & my speed is to port in front of the sink. They are both just forward of the keel & a little off to the side thus minimizing any turbulance from the leading edge of the keel. A sistership has his forward under the v-birth & has problems with waves. BOL PJ

shower

on the 1983 34 which i used to own the knot meter was located under the shower grate and the depth transducer was just outside the head door under the sole, also in the shower sump. I assumed this to be the original configuration and they both worked great. They were slightly behind the leading edge of the keel, I think this also protects them from lifting straps when you pick the boat up.
