Hire a hauler ?

My only first hand experience is from about a year ago. I bought a Tempest that was in New hampshire, and had it hauled to Maine by the boat yard that had stored it. It was sitting in a metal cradle, which they put on a flat bed of some sort. I never saw the truck with the boat on it since I was 100 miles away when it was delivered. At any rate, it was delivered no worse for the wear, for about 600.00. A friend has a Cape Dory 25 that he hauls locally on a trailer he built himself, so that might be an option depending on how soon it has to be moved. I'm not sure about removing the keel. It could probably be done, but I wonder if it's advisable. As with many questions in this forum, it might be wise to contact Rudy at D&L Marine. There are links to D&L via other parts of this site. I'll be interested to hear your solution. You may want to stick with a professional boat hauler. That should give you some insurance coverage in case of some accident. Just be sure that whatever gear is on board is well secured. Merry Christmas. Bob Edgarton
