Would it be safe to tow short distances with a Chevy Blazer with a 4.3 v6 and the tow package with tranny cooler?

How much does your boat/trailer weigh? Compare that to what your vehicle manual says for trailering...max traier weight and GCWR (weight of tow veh and veh being towed).

Far too Dangerous . . .

. . . just kidding. If it is a Cat22, then you are about 3500 lbs. total. It should be well within the confines of your Chevy Blazer. Check your owner's manual to be sure.

Towing

There are three important factors for safety: 1. Good trailer hitch. 2. Good trailer brakes. 3. Proper tongue weight. I like to have around 250 lbs. You can measure this by putting a bathroom scale under your trailer jack. If you do not have enough tongue weight, you trailer can start swaying, and take over, possibly flipping your tow vehicle, S-10 or a one ton truck. You will be able to tell if your tow is tracking properly: When accelerating past 40 or 45 mph go slow. If you feel any swaying from your trailer, slow down, you do not have enough tongue weight. I have towed my 22 to FL twice with a 1/2 ton, 4.3 liter pick-up. It is doable, but sometimes more power would be nice. David

Brakes will be your problem

Towed a Cat 22 for years with a Ranger 3.0, 2x4, 3.79 gears. Slow but, never had engine or trans problems with a trans and engine oil cooler. I'm in the mountains of Clearfield County! Stoping is your biggest problem!

Towjob

I tow my Catalina 22 with a 2WD Chevy 1/2 ton P/U. Same engine as yours. 5 speed manual. Have towed her for 4 years now. First two years with original trailer, no surge brakes. Second two years with a brand new custom made Champion trailer with surge brakes. The only problem I've EVER had has been hauling the boat out at low tide. I slip like heck on the slippery stuff on the ramp due to the fact that the truck is so light. I now plan haulouts and launchings for high tide. Campy out Hull #2226

ENGINE and trans oil cooler

15,000 lb. engine... and trans oil cooler! Engine cooler increased oil to 7 qts. Never held petal to floor. Towed 6 years, 1000 miles first year, 500 miles other 5, all up and down. Used or leaked no oil over 100,000 miles when traded. Full size Ford with 4.2 V-6, no engine or trans cooler, blown head gasket at 45,000 miles. My towing experiences.
