Frist of all thank's everyone for the great advise, found it very helpful. So I've decided to launch my Hunter 260 and just travel around the Bay for 2 weeks just stopping in for overnighters at different marinas. Problem is where can I launch the boat and also park truck and trailer in secure place. The reason I was looking at Sausalito was it looked easy to get to, I'm a little intimidated pulling boat around big city like San Francisco. So what I'm looking for is an easy place to launch and store truck and trailer close to all the hot spots in the bay (ex. Angle Island, Pier 39, Alcatraz etc.).

Check out the Alameda Marina at:

http://www.alamedamarina.net/about.html

There is a boat launch, chandlery, and storage. Its close to the fun part of the bay where you can go to all the places you mentioned above. Alcatraz is not open to private boaters. You have to take a ferry there if you want to go ashore. You won't have any trouble finding overnight berthing in marinas, yacht club guest docks, etc pretty much everywhere. You could even anchor in a few beautiful spots. If you don't have it already, I suggest Active Captain for up to date notes on where other people go. There is an app for Android that combines Active Captain with AIS. Its called Smart Chart AIS. Also available is the app from Jeppsen Plan2Nav with the entire Active Captain database.

Enjoy the bay.

I think many of us gave you the answer when you first asked last week, before we got chastised by fstbttms for mentioning places outside Sausalito! :)

Alameda Marina is a good choice. You can also use the boat ramp west of Alameda Marina and east of Grand Marina on Grand Street and leave your trailer there. Police cars frequent the area and a guest who stayed at our marina (Grand) for the entire AC series left their trailer and truck there with no incidents. Closed gates at night in Alameda Marina.

Buy Kimball Livingston's book Sailing The Bay. Learn to read the tide & current books (available for free at Svendsen's Marine chandlery in Alameda Marina. Monitor both CH16 and CH 14 (VTS) when you're underway. 14 tells you what the big ships & ferries are up to.

There have been many suggestions. I figure the next thing is to pick some of the marina's and contact them. My experience is they are almost without fail good to deal with.

Unless I missed it, what time of year are you talking about?

You are comming to such a wonderful area. And now is a great time of year. I love sailing in SF Bay (I come up from Santa Cruz every couple of years). Have fun and be safe.
