I have purchased a 1994 Capri 18 but have not picked it up yet. I noticed that the carpet is off the board that holds the hull rests on the trailer on the starboard side. I have to travel approximately 2 hours to get the boat back to my home. Is it safe to trailer with no carpet between the hull and board on one side or should I recarpet before making the drive?

Wrap something around it for sure. Make sure there are no nails or tacks sticking up out of the boards from previous carpet installs. If the boat is actually off the trailer this would be a good time to replace the boards if needed and replace the carpet(s) as needed. Other wise just get something between their so you dont abraid the gelcoat or worse.

I just looked at a picture of a Capri 18 on the net. It seems to have the same short stubby keel as my American. What I ended up doing so I could change my bunk boards and carpet and paint the bottom was to get a small bottle jack and a piece of of wood and put the jack and the wood between the trailer edge and the hull and then gently let the jack and the wood take up the holding pressure on the hull and then lowered the bunks down, pulled them off and then change boards and re carpeted. To just get it home, you wouldn't have to get this drastic, all you would have to do is just put the jack and wood under the keel and raise the boat slightly a 1/4 to 1/2" would do it and then slip some carpet in and re lower and you will be good till you get home. Make sure the piece slipped in is held in place by staples or duck tape.
