We may be moving next Spring from Michigan to the East Coast, and our question is how to move our 25' Catalina -- especially as we have a cradle, not a trailer! 1) Should our Ford Explorer (V8, AWD) be sufficient to haul it through the Pennsylvania mountains? 2) Where do we look for a trailer? Thanks! Bill kanddu@hotmail.com

Moving a Cat 25

I think your best bet would be to contact a professional boat transporter and have it moved. If you'r going to trailer your boat at your future site then buy a trailer designed for the boat, ie. trailrite etc.. I trailer mine with a Powerstroke Ford and it's a load going thru the Mtns here. I weighed my boat at a scale and it weighed 6800 on the trailer axels so it's more than just hooking up a camping trailer and setting out down the road. Good Luck Dale

Heavy load

We have trailored our 25 for only 150 miles, and it was a long trip. If we have it to do over again I'd call a boat mover, and not be worried about pulling such a load. We could travel no more than 40mph with our Chevy Blazer. Good luck!!

Trailer vs transport

We moved our cat 25 from Perry Lake, Kansas to Lake Lanier. The smartest thing I did was call someone else to do it. We hired a boat hauling company based in the Ozarks. We left him the option of when he wanted to move it, over the winter months. He waited until he had a pick-up in Florida, and then brought our boat down. Cost was $900. If you can find a similar situation go for it.
