Trying the same question, got 0 responses last time, but I know the knowledge is out there. I'm looking for places that allow overnight on-boat camping in Northern California. The only ones I've tried are New Bullards Bar (no wind, ever) and Lake Oroville (not bad, but I've been there 4 out of the last 6 weekends). Whiskeytown lets you overnight, but you are supposed to keep moving and I want to sleep. Almanor has overnight restrictions acording to Plumas Co. and PG&E. I don't think I'm reqady for Tahoe or the delta yet (just bought the boat this summer), anybody camped on Clearlake or Berryessa?

I would say head for the delta...but

The "delta" has so many derees of involvment that even as a "rookie" you can have a good time and be safe. What seems odd though is I don't see an outboard on your boat. Is it inboard power? I will tell you not to go Delta hopping without good reliable power. there are many hazards to navigation including other boaters. Get a good chart and pick a route your comfortable with and go. One last thing. Believe what the locals tell you about depths and schoals. or you will run aground. Good sailing

Overnight amping

Lake Don Pedro is a large lake in Tuolumne County and allows overnight camping either on the shore or on water year round. You can look at their web site. 2 launch ramps, 1 at each end of the lake. Hope that this helps, Malcolm

Clearlake

We used to put in at Nice at the north end. There's a marina there, but doesn't let you stay on board overnight, so we'd anchor out to the west of Nice near the tules at the NW end of the Lake. Great sailing. Lucerne also has a ramp, and I think Lakeport does, too. Lots of opportunities at the lower end of the lake. Great sailing, we had our C22 at the time. Stu

Thanks guys

I'll have to try Don Pedro (since that is what my #1 son calls himself), I've seen it on the maps, but this is the first real info. I have a brand new lightwieght (87#) Merc 8hp 4stroke that doesn't show in the picture. After talking to Fulton I take it off the mount when I trailer, but it moves the boat nicely. I am basically singlehanding (my wife is the sommelier) and don't know if I'm ready for much wind and traffic.

Clear Lake Multi-Day Qutings

I've logged by my GPS over 500 mi sailing this summer on Clear Lake. I usually go out for 3 or 4 days at a time, going where the wind blows and anchoring over-night in the many protected coves. Clear Lake is 25 mi long and 8 mi at the widest with 100 mi of shoreling. By comparison, Tahoe, which is round, has 80 mi of shoreline. I belong to the Konocti Bay Sailing Club which has many outings and an active racing program. Best Regards, Wilson

Canping/sailing on Clearlake

I sailed and camped on my Neptune 24 on Clearlake for almost 2 years. The only thing I would say is a drawback to Clearlake is that there are NO beaches to sail to. The lake is pretty shallow but if you do get there, you can enjoy Konocti harbor resort (on the water) and a live show. Go to Konoctiharbor.com and check it out. Its a fun lake to sail on if the wind is blowing, and does it blow there. Good luck!!! TAT

New Melonies

Have spent many years sailing this lake. Great afternoon winds and nice bottom for anchoring. Close to Angles Camp for supplies. Good fishing.

Lake Sonoma

Lake Sonoma is a fun lake. I've never sailed there, but it's close to Santa Rosa, wine country, and San Fran. It was built in 1983 and has boat-in camping, which we did for a couple days back in the 90's. It's not the biggest lake, but it's easy to get to. Here is what the web site says. Boat-in campsite are situated near the lake. Nine of these primitive sites are also accessible by the hiking and equestrian trails. Back country camp permits are required and are obtained at the Visitor Center. Oh, and Lake Berryessa (spelling?) is very beautiful and pretty close to Clear Lake, but from what I remember, it wasn't very easy to get to. I don't think the road was paved and it was pretty steep in some spots. Hopefully they've improved it since then.
