Does anyone know if it is possible to pull a 322 on a trailer with a powerful car? There was one for sale on Yachtworld that was advertised as 'having its own trailer' so thought I'd ask you all. We have moved ours on a low loader but is so expensive.
Many thanks

"powerful car", not a chance, you are into 3/4 ton truck territory here.

Hey,

As mentioned, there is no way you are going to move a 322 with a car. The boat and trailer will weigh well over 10,000 lbs. IMHO, that is too much for a pick up truck (well maybe a crew cab dually) and you really need a SERIOUS tow vehicle.

A 322 weighs at least 10,250# dry, no gear, no extras, just the boat as she came out of the factory. Add weight of the trailer and normal sailing gear and you are well into the realm of a "Big Rig" or at least heavy-duty pick-up truck. Plus, not many ramps are really designed to easily launch/haul a sailboat drawing 4'2" off a standard trailer (Hydraulic boat-hauler trailer...... sure, made for that type of ramps) and even if you COULD find a suitable ramp, stepping/unstepping the mast will require a crane or else some fancy modifications.

Yes, I suppose you could, with the right setup, become your own "boatyard" and haul a 322 out in the Fall, store her at home, then launch in the Spring...... but it will be a big job!

The internet has allowed anyone to contract haulers of all types for any load. There are many guys out there with heavy duty pick-up trucks hauling just about everything. Start with Uship.com
The key is to have open dates and not be in a rush. Uship has allowed many small time single truck (HD pickups with trailers) guys to get into the business and has driven prices way down.

Give it a try.

Hi Panta Rei, thanks for that idea. We would like to take our 322 from the UK to the Ionian in Greece, but it's a long sail! The quotes we have had to take her overland so far are between $8000 and $19,500 so are really out of the question. I asked about the trailer with a view to taking her ourselves but will have a look online as you suggested.
