We are in search for a trailer to tote the "Ole Gal" on. She is a Hunter 25', 1974. We may need one to have and would like to know the price of a used one? Can anybody give me some help? Thank you, Zizibeth/Elizabeth

Prices vary, but....

Hi, Prices vary with trailer condition and location, but I would say you're probably looking at about $1,500 give or take for a trailer in reasonable condition..... Chris

"Trailer-Made"

A sailboat trailer is not purchased "off the rack", like a lot of power boat trailers. (In fact, I've found that sailboat trailers are quite uncommon on the coast. I'm looking for another boat, and I'm having to add in the cost of having a trailer made for one.) My H25 is on a heavy-duty custom trailer, and unless the boat flamed or sank I don't think the trailer would be sold separately. You might try a few boat yards - even though sailboat trailers are "trailer made" to fit, a lot of the designs have a lot of inherent adjustability. I've been told to budget up to $5,000 for a new trailer for a 30-32 foot, full-keel boat. That may not be much help for you, but I'm guessing that the H25 can have a trailer fitted for about $2000 - $2500. Michael O'

Find a small welding shop

I wanted to buy a trailer last summer for another sailboat, but didn't like the answers (and prices) the marine places gave me. So I looked around. The best answer came from a company that builds trailers for semis. They suggested I contact any small welding shop in town, and have one custom built. Fall and Winter are particularly good times to have a trailer built, because Spring and Summer are the busier times, at least where I live.

H25 trailer

Before you go to the trouble and expense of obtaining a trailer make sure you have adequate towing power our 25 weighs over 4000lbs and im not sure of the height on a trailer but Im sure its at least 12 ft. or more. Raising and lowering the mast is also an experience if not familiar with using an A frame or have 4 people to help you. We found that if we could get our boat home the city wont let us store it in the front yard and the the weight of the boat it would just sink in the back so we store it at the marina for a few bucks a foot. Also make sure you wont get tired of rigging the boat everytime you sail if you trailer and getting it back on the trailer with a fixed keel is another experience(see another post for a 26). What did the previous owner do? If you have no other choice dont get discouraged sailing is worth any effort you have to put into it . Check all the possibilities I thought having a slip to call my own was only for the wealthy but I found other wise. And make sure you have insurance no matter what you decide to do, you would be amazed at the things you can be responsible for if somthing happens... hope this helps and your able to find what you need....marcie

Non-Habit-Forming Experience

With all due respect to Marcie's post, the hassles with trailering a H25 are greatest during your first season..... meaning, you'll get used to it! Raising and lowering the mast, though "exciting", can be done with two people. In fact, my mate (118 lbs) and I just lowered the mast two weeks ago, and it was the easiest ever! And I've loaded Narrow Escape on the trailer by myself in a 20 knot crosswind (seriously!), so loading it has never been a big hassle. Marcie has a point, though - this boat is not for trailering every weekend! Launching and rigging can take a lot of physical energy and a lot of time. So, if you're looking for a trailer to do your semi-annual launch/retrieve, go for it. If you're looking for a way to get your boat from where you purchased it to where you will keep it in a slip, hire a boat delivery service (and maybe store it on a cradle?). If you're looking for a trailer to haul this boat around the state every weekend - sell it and buy a H23! Michael O'
