Does anyone have a road ready trailer that they would like to rent?

I'm exploring my sailing options for the summer.

Our sail club is selling our old committee boat that is on a tandem axle trailer, that could probably be converted to a Vega trailer. It is a 70's Bayliner Saratoga. I think they want around $3000 for the boat and trailer, probably won't sell the trailer seperately. It's in Colorado. -Tim

Just in case you aren't aware: You will likely need a so-called "weight
distributing hitch". My 3/4 ton pickup can't trail more than 6,000 lbs.
without one. Also the Vega dry and empty plus a 1,600 lb. trailer (what
the documentation says mine weighs) is ~6,700 lbs. which is marginal for
some 1/2 ton trucks. Remember too that you will likely want to carry
'stuff' too.

I have a Vega trailer. The trailer itself is road ready, I pulled it 60 miles no problem and it tracked well. It is not in the shape to pull a boat right now though; the brakes and lights would need work.

I had to throw on some portable trailer lights, and run it without working brakes. It has all new tires (4) about 6 months ago. The trailer is registered but not used to pull a Vega on the road for at least 5 years

Your welcome to use it rent free just for returning it road ready.

Hi,
If you have checked all the skin fittings, the first item I would suspect is the drain plug in the bilge sump. It is merely a bronze fitting glassed into the laminate. After that I would check for leakage around the bronze rudder tube and the shaft log both of which are laminated into the hull. The bond between these fittings and the surrounding glass can let go and leak water start leaking inside the boat. None are that hard to repair but they are best done with the boat in dry dock.
