I'm looking for a new trailer for my almost completely renovated daysailer. Advices as to brand, and size would be highly appreciated. Right now it's on a hulking old iron beast which must weigh at least a thousand pounds.
If you are looking to buy a brand new trailer you can try to contact one of the OEM trailer mfg's of a small boat line like precision hunter ect. and if you have a dealer near you they mght work with you to have a trailer set up for your boat. I was going to do this at one point with a Precision 18 that was being sold without a trailer. It was expensive and I decided to purchase a different boat in the long run.
Otherwise you may want to get a few measurements on a daysailor on a trailer and hunt around for a used trailer. The location and adjustability of the bunks I would say is the most important issue to support the hull properly according to its design. My little daysailor has reinforced hull where the bunks meet the trailer. Second would be where the botom front roller supports the bow and if the bow eye connection is at the proper level when hauled in on the eye strap. This should be just above the eye as to pull the boat upwards toward the eye and allow the boat to come all the way upon the trailer when at an angle on the ramp.
In the end it may be a desicion to wether the value of the boat overall merits the purchase of a brand new trailer.
hope this helps a bit, jimmyb
