I have a 26x trailer and would like to grease the wheel bearings.I'm not really sure if I need it, but I want to be sure they are ok before I go on a long trip in a coulple of months.I am not very mechanically inclined so forgive me for my basic question. I would like to know where you grease it.Do you have to take the tire off to do this, or can you do it without doing that? Also I think I see some kind of small nipple on the hub, but I do not know if that is where you do it or not.I hope this doesn't sound to lame of a question. But I would like to be safe. Thanks.

Wheel bearing protectors

If you don't have them installed, get them. They will save you a lot of grief on the road. Your bearings lose a little bit of grease everytime you back those warm (from towing) bearings into cold water. You mentioned grease fittings on the hub. Sounds to me like you do have the bearing protectors. Yours should have a plastic ring below the grease fitting. You should pump marine grease into that fitting until the plastic ring is approximately 1/8 inch above the edge of the unit. Don't overfill it. Check for this everytime before driving off, especially after pulling the trailer out of the water. If you're still unsure about the procedure, stop by any boat shop and get further advice. It's a simple procedure.
