I need to know how to set a trailer up to properly support a catalina 22. I bought a trailer that is rated at 4800 pounds but is set up for a power boat. Is there any info on how high to set the supports so that they are at least close when I get the boat to the ramp, and can then make final adjustments in the water? I picked up this boat for next to nothing and now its driving me crazy that I can't pull it to the coast of georgia to a place ther we have to sail it. It is a swing keel. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Tough

I had a trailer custom build for mine ($2200), I think you will have create completly new supports. I doubt that the current ones are high enough. I would probably take a trip to Aqualand marina in Flowery branch, and drive around and take some measurements of some of the trailers with Cat 22's on them. (There are quite a few) (You will probably have to tell the guard that you are going to the mMarina Store to talk about purchasing a slip, or they probably won't let you in to poke around.) I too and interested in making a few repairs and taking the family ot the Georgia coast for a sail. (Probably get them a hotel room.) Mike

Be very careful about the support of you boat. I bought a trailer that was originally set up for a Tanzer of similar size. The sailing establishment I bought it from assured me that there would be no problems trailering a 22' Catalina on it. Unfortunally hull damage resulted from undersized contact points on the rear of the boat which the company had to repair. Make sure you take some of the pressure off the hull by dropping the swing keel (that's ~800 lbs of weight). I had the trailer modified by putting a 2"X8" board down the middle then dropped the keel on it and enlarging the two cradle points on the rear of the trailer to prevent further damage, that helped. If you find out anymore information please post it. I can send you some pictures if you like.

If all else fails, Call Catalina

I finally called Catalina and they faxed me a diagram of the cradles they use to move the unfinished hulls around the shop. Thanks everyone for the replies. once I get the boat out of the water I plan to replace the keel bushings and pin, so I will post the results.
