I just got a cirrus 22 westerly and am setting it up on a trailer for trailer cruising and ramp launching if possible. It draws 3 1/2 ft on its fin keel. I have a heavy duty trailer from a powerboat I am modifying with a trailer tongue extension for ramp launching. Is this doable for a boat with this much draft? Anybody out there cruise with a cirrus 22 westerly? it also weighs 3300 lbs. and will be gehind my 3/4 ton dodge truck with cummins diesel. we are going to do Baja next spring from here in SF. Any trailer cruisers out there?

I don't see the weight being an issue behind that tow vehicle.

You might have to pick your ramps, so that you don't back down and off the end of the ramp with the trailer tires.

One other option besides a longer tongue is putting....

a wheel (your trailer spare) on the tongue and then backing the boat down into the water with a cable. I did what you see above and that is explained here....

...for the local lake that uses the old road that got flooded for a ramp and it doesn't have much angle, so you have to back way out.

Here is another option someone did....

... It isn't steerable like mine, but that actually might be better as you are just letting it go straight downhill into the lake and coming out straight.

Good luck,

Echo,

Congrats! And you won't have any trouble trailering or launching. My Lancer is about the same weight and drafts about a foot less. We have no problems even on shallow ramps. So, with that extension, you're golden. Ours sits on a modified EasyLoader roller trailer. I got some steel from work and raised the roller assemblies to meet the hull. Then I added a keel guide. It's starting to rust so right now it isn't pretty, but it works well.
