Have been thinking about getting a trailer for my 82 O'Day 23. Was talking to Rudy at D&R this morning and he told me that the trailers for the 23 and 25 were/are very similar. Do you know of a used trailer for sale in the southern mass or RI area? If so please post information. Do you have a trailer and some pictures - it has been suggested that I get a used trailer and build the supports for the 23 - a used trailer is about $600 versus the new O'Day trailers for nearly $4K - which as Rudy said is more than the boat is worth. If you have some pictures of the supports for the boat, i.e. side supports and keel support or any information on how to convert a trailer to make it a happy and safe place for a 23 please let me know. Thanks for your suggestions and input.

My trailer
This is what the trailer looks like for my newly purchased 25. It's a single axle with non functioning brakes. The boat is mainly supportes at the base of the keel with 4 roller supports to keep it side steady. There are also rails to guide the boat onto the trailer. I'm in RI so if you'd like to check it out, let me know. Greg

I would recommend a dual axle trailer with brakes. The 23 is on the borderline for dual/single axles trailers, but I would be afraid to drive a 25 on a single with no brakes (It is against the law here). Rob

I also have an O'Day 23 and I have some pictures of my trailer posted at the link below... http://members.aol.com/kwolfe2979/myhomepage/Trailer.html I towed this boat home with a '97 F150 and discovered the trailer had no brakes. Lucky for me there aren't any mountains between Port Huron, MI and Indianapolis. That's a long trip at 55 mph. This boat-trailer combo really needs brakes on the trailer to keep the boat from muscling you around at stop lights on off-ramps. And on a side note, to get it all up a wet ramp reliably you will need a 4x4, a posi won't always do the job because some ramps are steeper and sandier than others. Anyway, as Carver says the trailer is built to support the keel and the rest just keeps the boat from falling over. Personally, I'd be afraid to tow an O'Day 25 on a single axle trailer. If you blew a tire you might find "the tail wagging the dog" when that #4000 load gets wiggling. Saftey first.

Tire blown
I actually did blow a tire a couple weeks ago when taking the boat back from having my mast looked at. I was going pretty slow at the time and about 1/10 mile from my house. Had to leave the trailer and find a new tire. FWIW, the trailer is and EZ-Loader, rated for the weight of the boat. I believe the trailer and boat have the same dealer name on them from 1976. So I'm not overly concerned about the trailer's abilitites. The brakes on the other hand, I do intend to replace at some point. Fortunately, the ramp is only about 10 miles from my house and I only trailer at the beginning and end of the season.
