Trailer For Catalina 27

I put my 1987 Catalina 27 in the water for the first time today. I have a tandum axle trailer that is set up with four points of support. Just as the stern floated free as we backed down the ramp, the front two supports bent backward and collapsed. The launch was a success, but the trailer is in bad shape. It was apparantly made only to have the boat set in the cradle by a crain or hoist, which we do not have at our marina. Would like to modify the trailer to allow the boat to sail on or off like a conventional trailer for a Catalina 22. Does anyone have any ideas or plans for a retrofit?Thank you,Corbyn

I have a 27 its a big boat, I can not imagine trailering it. You may need to rethink the boat you have.I realize people do it but wow!SkipCat27"Kid Napper"

Who is the manufacturer of the trailer? I've seen some trailers (especially for fin keeled and larger boats) that look like they're made to only transport and not launch/recover the boat on a ramp. I'd try contacting Trail-Rite in Santa Ana, CA. They make many trailers for Catalina. Your trailer might need many modifications to make it suitable for your purpose.

Shoreline

I used a shoreline trailer to launch and recover a Sun 27 (7000 lbs and 4' 3" draft) for 18 years without any problems. Each of the four supports had two 2 inch diameter braces. One from near the top to the center of the trailer and the other from the top angled fore or aft. I would hesitate to use a trailer subject to the kind of failure you describe for anything.
