I can't help with the trailer but the mast stepping is really easy with 3 people. Any less is a damage risk and a likely back injury (and I played football in college). It's just too awkward.

Can anyone tell me the cost of a new trailer for the 22? How hard is it to step/unstep the mast?

Mast stepping depends on whether you have a mast raising system or not. I do mine with two people & one is a kid, but I have a nice mast raiser that the local shop made for the PO of my boat. Our lakes also have mast cranes, so two can do it easily here using the mast crane if you do not have your own well made mast raising system.

Most issue with the mast is time - which is why I sail out of a slip. It takes me forever to do - but I am not good at it because I only go up in April and down in October.

I'm assuming you have a swing keel, in which case converting a powerboat trailer isn't all that difficult. The key to remember is that you are building a cradle and the boat needs to float onto and off of the cradle, not drive on/off. Just look at some C22 trailers around, take some pics, and talk to a trailer shop. Actually getting a real bonafide C22 trailer is near impossible and really expensive. I had one with my 84 model and when I was selling the whole thing I could have sold the trailer alone for $1500 cash real easy and it was in sorry shape.

Thanks for all the help and useful info. I'm considering a Potter 19 or Catalina 22, BUT it sounds like the Potter is much easier. With lift system, 1 person can do it, 2 without. Thanks again all!

Potter is a great boat, expensive as a fleet of C22s, but really cool and easy to rig and sail.
