The boat weighs 4000# bare naked.
I would go no less than 6000#gvw. The keel should be the main support with either the bunks or rollers to keep it from falling off the trailer. If there is too much weight on the hull supports, you will see that is stoved in. hope that helped! r.w.landau

I will second the opinion offered by rwl. 6,000 gw means dual axle. Most of the boat's weight will be in and rest on the stubby keel. Rollers, bunks, or pads provide some support but more in stability. Recently there was a discussion for a trailer for a O'Day 26 which is only 10 inches longer and weighs the same. Similar keel set up. Ed K

Boy am I old, GVW means Gross Vehical Weight.
That is the total allowable weight for the boat, trailer, and the crap in the boat. The boat weighs 4000 plus the trailer at 1500 to 1800#. Yes the dual axle would be right and brakes on each wheel. Electric brakes are great..for the first season. Once they are exposed to weather, they can be a nightmare. I would go with surge brakes that are less expensive, work great, and are easier to repair as time goes on. 95% of the weight should be on the Center board trunk!(The moulded in keel) just an opinion, r.w.landau

Thanks so much for you input. We will need to build up the center of the trailer to support the keel. Right now it's off the trailer by about 5". Only the hull is supported. I guess our trailer guy didn't know what he was doing. The trailer we bought was made for a 25ft. Catalina with wing keel,it has dual axle, breaks, lights and a mast raising system. It had to be modified a lot to fit our boat. We are getting there.

I would recommend getting support under the keel asap. 3 2x6's sound like a fix or an 6x6 if you can find one. Let them rest on cross members. Why not send us a picture. Again, you may mis shapen your boat without support under keel. Ed K
