Trailer Bed Replacement help!!!

My trailer beds need replacement... They are probably 26 years old... Any special type of wood? What type of cover material? (astroturf, indoor/outdoor carpeting?

Also, the existing beds seem to have a curve so it fits the bottom... I was thinking of weighing down the plank a bit to curve it and then fastening the bed... Or will it conform to the bottom over time after placement? Or, should I not address or think about this point at all!!!

As always, thanks in advance for your thoughts, ideas and information on this subject...

ABK,

I think most folks will use 5/4 X 6 PT and cover it with boat carpet from Cabela's or your local marina. It really shouldn't be very expensive.

I used pressure treated 2 by 6's from Lowes. They also had some rubber backed outdoor carpet plus the right glue. So far so good!

Yup, standard PT 2x6's and regular indoor/outdoor carpet works great.. Done dozens of trailers like that without a problem.

As for the curve.. you can usually get away with just attaching the boards and they will, over time, conform to the fit of the boat. If the curvature is very pronounced, attach the boards on the trailer but leave them loose. Lower the boat and once it's weight has bent them into position, tighten them up. Just make sure you have enough play in your fasteners to allow for movement.
