I've got a lead on a 25' centerboard model for a good price, but with no trailer. I want to be sure I have some options for getting a trailer so I have a couple questions. What load rating should a trailer have? Any ideas where I can locate a used trailer in the New England area? Thanks for the help, Greg

Heavy to tow
The Oday 25 weighs almost 5000 lbs. without equipment. Loaded up with an outboard, porta potti, sails, PFD's, seat cushions, food, water, etc, you are looking at towing about 5500 lbs. That's a load to trailer with any sort of regularity. I'm no expert, but it would seem to me that you will want a double-axle trailer with surge brakes. A power winch might be a good idea too. Of course, any trailer you choose will have to accomodate the stub keel's draft; the listed draft is 2'3", but I don't know the depth of the stub keel from the bilge. I love the Oday 25; of all the 25 footers I have seen, I think it is equalled only by the late, great Catalina 25 pop-top fixed keel. However, if you are really in the market for a truly trailerable boat, you might want to consider other options. IMHO, the Oday 25 is just too heavy to tow, launch and retrieve on a regular basis. On the other hand, if you are comfortable towing that big a package (and many people are), I think you have made a great choice.

Not much towing involved
Mike, I only plan to tow twice a year. My main reason for going with a trailerable is to eliminate the need for launch and storage fees. I've been sailing the past two years on an O'day 20 and enjoy keeping the cost down. thanks, Greg

One other idea
Your choice of boats makes even more sense then; I would do the same thing for my Oday 23 if I had a trailer. I would borrow a truck and tow it to my back yard for the winter if I could. One other idea came to me for finding an appropriate trailer: check the Catalina owners' website. I don't mean the one that is part of the same family as this Oday Owners site, but the Catalina 25 national owner's association site. Catalina 25's were about the same size and weight as your boat, and there are a heck of a lot more of them than there are Oday 25's. Maybe you can get a lead on a Catalina 25 trailer from their website.

well the biggest thing is Brakes. you can pull an Oday25 with about anything but as stated one doesnt want to make a habit of that lol. i have a 1976 Ez Loader of which the trailer is about 1500# alone and has 2 axels with electric brakes and controller. also only pull 2 times a year to lake in spring then home for winter. trailer is very beefy. last owner pulled with a dodge van i use a 29' motor home . if you need info on trailer i have pics and measurments to share.
